This results in a spectrum of neurological\, orthopedic\, and urological anomalies\, posing significant challenges for patients and healthcare providers alike. In the Philippines\, the full impact of spina bifida remains understudied\, highlighting the need for improved awareness\, diagnosis\, and management strategies.\n\nIn this week’s episode\, we will be discussing the pathophysiology of spina bifida\, presenting the various subtypes and their associated clinical manifestations. Emphasis will be placed on early detection through prenatal screening and diagnostic tools\, allowing for timely intervention and improved long-term outcomes. Patient advocates will also share their experiences and perspectives\, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by individuals living with spina bifida and their families.\n\nWe will discuss current treatment modalities\, including prenatal interventions\, surgical procedures\, and comprehensive rehabilitation programs. By integrating medical\, surgical\, rehabilitative\, and psychosocial aspects of care\, participants will gain valuable insights into creating a holistic treatment plan for their patients.\n\nOur main presenter is Dr. Ronnie E. Baticulon\, who is a global scholar and a practicing pediatric neurosurgeon from the Philippine General Hospital and serves as Professor from the Department of Anatomy\, UP College of Medicine. Our reactors are Ms. Manuela Carla G. Mijares\, who is presently the Directress of the Spina Bifida Support Group Foundation Inc.\, and Mr. Gabriel G. SUMMARY:Digitization and Performance of Asian Music Arranged for Guitar Ensemble by Lester Demetillo
DESCRIPTION:This project aims to digitize the works of Maestro Lester Demetillo\, a distinguished Filipino guitarist and pedagogue who transcribed and arranged countless works for the classical guitar ensemble from both local and foreign music\, greatly contributing to the history and practice of classical guitar in the Philippines.\n\nHis hand-written works will be encoded in batches of 10-15 pieces and each batch will be performed in a dedicated guitar ensemble concert as a means of promoting Filipino classical guitar music while honoring the legacy of Lester Demetillo\, who rose to prominence when he founded the UP Guitar Ensemble in 1982.\n\nThe project “Digitization and Performance of Asian Music Arranged for Guitar Ensemble” by Lester Demetillo will conclude with a concert featuring the first batch of encoded works transcribed by Maestro Lester Demetillo consisting of eight Filipino works and five traditional works from our neighboring Asian countries\, namely Indonesia\, Japan\, Korea\, China\, and Thailand.\n\nThese works will be performed by the project team\, the UP Guitar Ensemble\, heading this initiative who were all former students of Maestro Demetillo in the University of the Philippines.\n\nThe concert will be held in the UP College of Music Mini Hall on 27 June 2024 at 6:00 PM. This talk is in partnership with the UP Office of International Linkages and the UP Diliman College of Science.\n\nDr. Deepak Jha\, a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Archaeology at the Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology\, is dedicated to studying human-environment interactions. His research specifically addresses climate change\, vegetation transition\, and the use of fire by ancient human populations. Dr. Jha employs advanced multiproxy environmental analyses\, utilizing plant lipid biomarkers\, stable isotopes\, and macroscopic charcoal particles to reveal how prehistoric humans used fire.\n\nBy reconstructing past environments using these multiple proxies\, Dr. Jha aims to shed light on how environmental changes have influenced human evolution\, subsistence strategies\, settlement patterns\, social structures\, and technological developments.
