Bravo\nDivision Chief\, Infectious Disease\nClinical Associate Prof.\, Dept of Obstetrics and Gynecology\nUP College of Medicine\n\nDr. Kate Leyritana\nMedical Director\nSustained Health Initiatives of the Philippines\n\nReactors:\nDr. Ricardo Manalastas\, Jr.\nProfessor\, Obstetrics and Gynecology\nUniversity of the Philippines Manila\n\nTeresita Marie (Bai) P. Bagasao\nProject Director\, Meeting Targets and Achieving Epidemic Control (EpiC)- HIV\n\n———————————————————–\n\nWebinar #117\nSeptember 16\, 2022\nHIV sa Panahon ng COVID-19\n\nWhen the first published report of what would ultimately become known as HIV and AIDS appeared in June 1981\, very little was known about the disease. It did not have a name\, it was not clear what caused it – there were no tests or treatment. Patients died within a few months.\n\nThe human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) targets the immune system and weakens people’s defense against many infections and some types of cancer.\n\nThe most advanced stage of HIV infection is acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)\, which can take many years to develop if not treated\, depending on the individual. AIDS is defined by the development of certain cancers\, infections or other severe long-term clinical manifestations.\n\nHIV is a major global public health issue\, having claimed 40.1 million lives since 1981.\n\nPrior to the COVID-19 pandemic\, the Philippines had one of the highest rates of increase in HIV in this part of the world.\n\nWhat happened during the pandemic? Did cases increase or decrease? Were HIV patients able to receive treatment and care during the lockdowns? These days\, who are most at risk for HIV in the Philippines?\n\nIn this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS\, we will take a closer look at an epidemic that occurred prior to and continued during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a reminder and a wake-up call to invest in prevention and public education as well as services for other types of infections\, not just COVID-19.\n\nWhat should our frontline workers know about HIV and COVID-19? What kind of advice can be given to patients who are HIV positive? What is the status of treatment and drugs and medicines? How are young people being continuously engaged in prevention?\n\nOur experts include: Dr. Sybil Lizanne R. Bravo\, Division Chief of Infectious Disease and Clinical Associate Professor with the Dept of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UP College of Medicine; and Dr. Kate Leyritana\, Medical Director of the Sustained Health Initiatives of the Philippines. Our reactors include: Dr. Ricardo Manalastas\, Jr.\, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of the Philippines Manila; and Teresita Marie P. Bagasao\, Project Director of Meeting Targets and Achieving Epidemic Control (EpiC)- HIV.\n\nWe will also feature the most recent information on HIV\, prevention\, treatment and new literature. We will talk about who is at risk and will also view materials from a recent media campaign.\n\nJoin us as we learn more about infections!\n\nTogether\, we can STOP C.O.V.I.D. DEATHS!

SUMMARY:Stop COVID Deaths Webinar #118 "PROBLEMA SA IMMUNE SYSTEM: COVID-19 and Inborn Errors of Immunity"

DEATHS Webinar Series.\n(Current COVID-19 problems; Other outbreaks; Viruses; Infections; Disasters)\nSo sign up NOW:\nbit.ly/StopCOVIDDeathsWebinar118 \n  \nWebinar #118\nSeptember 23\, 2022 (Friday) 12nn\nPROBLEMA SA IMMUNE SYSTEM:\nCOVID-19 and Inborn Errors of Immunity\n\nPresenter:\nDr. Fatima Johanna T. Santos-Ocampo\nHead\, Immunology Council of Philippine Society of Allergy\, Asthma and Immunology (PSAAI)\nAdvisor\, Philippine Organization of Patients with Primary Immunodeficiency (PHILPOPI)\n\nSpeakers:\nHarris Baraguir\nMember\, Philippine Organization of Patients with Primary Immunodeficiency (PHILPOPI)\n\nKatrina Villareal\nMember\, Philippine Organization of Patients with Primary Immunodeficiency (PHILPOPI)\n\n———————————————————–\n\nWebinar #118\nSeptember 23\, 2022\nPROBLEMA SA IMMUNE SYSTEM:\nCOVID-19 and Inborn Errors of Immunity\n\nOur immune systems help us fight infections. But some individuals are born with problems with their immune system. In fact\, there are more than 400 types of immunodeficiencies that have been identified\, some can cause problems at birth. Others manifest later in life. People with inborn errors of immunity (IEI) are likely to become very sick from infections.\n\nCOVID-19 has had severe effects on individuals with immunity problems. They are part of the general grouping of immunocompromised individuals who must be vaccinated and provided with additional protection compared to the general population.\n\nTesting and treatment is important to identify IEI. Individuals with recurrent infections – that can become severe and debilitating: digestive problems and chronic diarrhea\, the need for hospitalization and given IV antibiotics\, fungal infections of the mouth\, unusual opportunistic infections not commonly seen are some of the “red flags” for a primary immunodeficiency.\n\nIn this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS\, we will take a closer look at inborn errors of immunity to help understand how to identify these patients and provide proper referral to specialists who can help manage them particularly if they acquire COVID-19.\n\nRecent studies in the Philippines are showing that there seem to be more cases of IEI in the Philippines\, hence the importance of keeping a close watch on children\, in particular who have severe COVID-19 symptoms.\n\nWe will find out how this can be tested and treated. We will also talk about family history and the genetic predisposition for acquiring these conditions. We will touch on pregnancy\, cancers and other conditions that could be affected by IEI.\n\nOur main presenter is the leading pediatrician in the field of IEI\, Dr. Fatima Johanna T. Santos\, who is the Head of the Immunology Council of Philippine Society of Allergy\, Asthma and Immunology (PSAAI) and the Advisor of the Philippine Organization of Patients with Primary Immunodeficiency (PHILPOPI). We will be joined by patients who will talk about their experience\, Harris Baraguir and Katrina Villareal\, who are both members of PHILPOPI. The Synthesis and Closing Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Stella Marie L. Jose\, who is the Deputy Director for Health Operations of UP Philippine General Hospital.\n\nJoin us on your on-line credible community to discuss these conditions that could result in severe COVID-19.\n\nTogether\, we can STOP C.O.V.I.D. DEATHS!
