DESCRIPTION:The UP Manila community is encouraged to join the activities for the 123rd PCSA with the 10-year theme: “Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant Heroes”\, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources\, and its attached agencies\, will be conducting the simultaneous 2023 PCSA Plant-Run nationwide on 17 September 2023 (Sunday).\n\nThe Civil Service Commission National Capital Region (CSC NCR) and CSC Regional Office No. IV (CSC RO No. IV) have joined forces for this event and the said activity will be held at Brgy. Cuyambay\, Tanay Rizal Province.\n\nIn a meeting between CSC RO IV and NCR\, it was agreed upon that the “run” component will no longer push through due to the risks involved. Therefore\, the committee decided to continue the planting activity only at the identified plant site/s. Participants must be physically fit\, agile and willing to walk or trek from the parking area to the plant site which is about 3km back and forth. Thus\, participants are advised to wear appropriate hiking attire.\n\nDistance from Quezon City going to the Plant site at Brgy Cuyambay\, Tanay\, Rizal Province is 44km with the travel time (early morning) of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours.\n\nThe participant’s planting kit will be given to the field office for distribution to the registered participants once available.\nProceeds from the 2023 PCSA Plant-Run is for the benefit of the Pamanang Lingkod Bayani (PLBi)\, a program that provides one-time financial assistance and scholarship opportunities in honor of government workers who died in the line of duty.\n\nIn this regard\, we are respectfully inviting you to participate in this noteworthy endeavor.\n\nRegistration fee is Php 550 per participant and will be covered by UPM. Each Knight-Hennessy scholar receives up to three years of financial support to pursue graduate studies at Stanford while participating in engaging experiences that prepare scholars to be visionary\, courageous\, and collaborative leaders who address complex challenges facing the world.\n\nJoshua Dimasaka ’19 from the Philippines and Ling Rañeses Ritter ’21 of the United States to talk about their experiences as Knight-Hennessy scholars\, the application process\, and pursuing degrees at Stanford. We will also delve into the prevalence of smoking across different regions\, the socio-economic factors influencing tobacco use\, and the unique challenges faced by the Philippines in combating this public health crisis. Understanding these nuances is essential for tailoring effective interventions.\n\nCultural sensitivity is paramount when addressing smoking cessation in the Philippines. In this webinar\, we will provide guidance on how to approach smoking cessation discussions with respect for diverse backgrounds and beliefs. We will explore the importance of cultural competence in building trust and rapport with patients\, enhancing the likelihood of successful smoking cessation outcomes.\n\nOur speakers will guide you through the latest research\, evidence-based strategies\, and updated guidelines for smoking cessation. Fernandez\, who is the Project Leader of the Update on the Philippine Smoking Cessation Guidelines commissioned by the Department of Health; Member of the WHO Guideline Development Group on Smoking Cessation; and Head of the Stop Smoking Program as well as Professor & Chief of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the UP College of Medicine and Philippine General Hospital. DESCRIPTION:Let’s celebrate!\n\nThe 76th year of UP presence in Iloilo celebration is happening from 25-29 September 2023 with a wide array of activities to enjoy in both Miagao and Iloilo City campuses! This year’s theme is “Pasanyog: Enhancing Our Strengths\, Broadening Our Reach\, Deepening Our Roots.”\n\nThe five-day celebration will formally open on 25 September with a flag raising ceremony at the Oblation Plaza\, Iloilo City campus to be attended by the University officials\, faculty\, and staff. It will be followed by a thanksgiving mass at 9:00 AM at the Auditorium. The opening program will take place thereafter. Pagtunda sa Palaabuton\, a laying of the time capsule activity\, will follow at the Oblation Plaza.\n\nThe highlight of the first day of the celebration will be the Chancellor’s Awards for Outstanding Performance and Service Awards\, which will recognize the exemplary performance of the University’s faculty and staff.
