MARIE ALELI R. DE CASTRO-MALIG\nVice President\, Society of Gynecologic Oncologists of the Philippines\nChairperson\, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology\, Perpetual Help Medical Center\, Las Piñas\nHead\, Section of Gynecologic Oncology\, Asian Hospital and Medical Center\n\nReactor:\nDR. RENEE VINA G. SICAM\nClinical Associate Professor\, Division of Gynecologic Oncology\nDepartment of Obstetrics and Gynecology\nUP College of Medicine and Philippine General Hospital\n\n———————————————————–\n\nWebinar #248\nJuly 25\, 2025 (Friday)\, 12:00 noon\nLiwanag sa Kababaihan\nUnveiling Updates in Endometrial Cancer\n\nEndometrial cancer\, a significant gynecologic malignancy\, continues to present evolving challenges within the Philippine healthcare landscape. Its prevalence\, risk factors\, and the nuances of its clinical manifestation necessitate a robust understanding across all echelons of medical practice and within the general public. This imperative becomes even more pronounced given recent epidemiological shifts\, which underscore the need for heightened awareness and improved early detection strategies. Abnormal uterine bleeding\, particularly in postmenopausal individuals\, remains the cardinal symptom\, yet a broader appreciation of subtle indicators and high-risk patient profiles is crucial for timely intervention.\n\nIn this week’s episode\, we will meticulously explore contemporary epidemiological trends specific to the Philippines in order to shed light on incidence rates\, demographic vulnerabilities\, and the societal impact of this condition. We will elucidate diagnostic innovations — from advancements in endometrial biopsy techniques and hysteroscopy to the utility of specific tumor markers and molecular profiling in precise characterization. Moreover\, we will navigate the complexities of current management paradigms\, including surgical approaches\, including the roles of hysterectomy\, salpingo-oophorectomy\, and lymphadenectomy\, with an emphasis on appropriate staging and minimally invasive techniques pertinent to the local context. We will also discuss adjuvant therapies and explore the evidence-based application of chemotherapy\, radiation therapy (including brachytherapy)\, and hormonal therapy\, discerning their indications and potential synergistic effects in diverse clinical scenarios.\n\nOur main presenter is Dr. Marie Aleli R. De Castro-Malig\, who is the Vice President of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists of the Philippines. She is also the Chairperson of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Perpetual Help Medical Center in Las Piñas City and the Head of the Section of Gynecologic Oncology at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center. Our reactor is Dr. Renee Vina G. Sicam\, who is a Clinical Associate Professor from the UP-PGH Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.\n\nJoin us in learning about early recognition\, referral\, supportive care\, and pharmaceutical management of endometrial cancer patients as we reinforce the multidisciplinary nature of optimal patient journeys. Together\, we can stop preventable deaths!

SUMMARY:On Local Ecologies: Artist Roundtable on Exhibiting ‘Art and Ecology’ in / for / from a University
DESCRIPTION:Bilang pangwakas na aktibidad ng proyektong Kalikhasan: Outdoor Art Projects on Campus Ecology\, inaanyayahan ang lahat na makilahok sa On Local Ecologies: Artist Roundtable on Exhibiting ‘Art and Ecology’ in / for / from a University. Prop. Mark Louie Lugue\, ang co-curator ng Kalikhasan project\, bilang tagapagpadaloy ng programa.\n\n// Roundtable Abstract:\n\nIn the country\, earlier attempts at exhibiting art guided by ecological consciousness can be traced back to the 1970s\, a period that witnessed a notable growth in environmentalism. Around half a century forward\, more art exhibitions led and hosted locally have sought to tease out and underscore the ties between art and ecology. These tapped on the potential of art in surfacing the impact of humanity on the environment and in raising climate awareness. In the same vein\, institutions and other groups began to examine or further reexamined their ways of working in response to the challenges of environmental sustainability.\n\nThis roundtable finds its position within this landscape by asking: What is added when we forward art as a proposition to ecological discourses through an exhibition situated in\, for\, and/or from a university? The University is a setting that is poised to offer a compelling perspective and starting point given its potential to be a progressive site of knowledge co-production despite inherent contradictions presented by the bureaucracies and conventions it tends to maintain as an institution. This potential rests in how the institution can flesh out and engender intergenerational exchanges and collaborations amongst its diverse disciplinal grounds and communities. More specifically\, the session asks: What can the unique contours of the University of the Philippines Diliman—its institutional history\, physical environment\, communities\, legacies\, and present affairs—contribute to these ongoing conversations?\n\nDrawing from the idea of “local ecologies\,” the forum shall see the university as both a microcosm intrinsically linked with broader environmental systems\, and a distinct ecosystem in its own right. Taking this as a frame for understanding the UPD community\, the forum brings together artists Dayang Yraola\, Karl Castro\, and Isola Tong\, who recently participated in the exhibition “Kalikhasan: Outdoor Art Projects on Campus Ecology” that ran from February to June this year. It offers an opportunity to reflect on the experience of conceiving and mounting outdoor and site-specific artworks that resonate with ecological discourses within and beyond the university\, as they intersected with longstanding conversations on politics\, class\, and gender.\n\n—\nAng Kalikhasan ay bahagi ng UP Diliman Arts and Culture Festival 2025 (UPDACF 2025) na may temang “Kalahok sa Nagbabagong Kalikasan”. These physiological changes are often precipitated by natural aging processes\, parity\, and hormonal fluctuations\, particularly during perimenopause and menopause. These changes can profoundly affect a woman’s comfort\, confidence\, and overall quality of life\, including sexual well-being.\n\nIn this week’s episode\, we will discuss the multifaceted realm of vaginal rejuvenation procedures\, exploring a spectrum of therapeutic modalities designed to mitigate these common concerns. Our distinguished panel of speakers will meticulously elucidate the scientific underpinnings and clinical applications of various interventions. We will discuss non-surgical approaches\, such as energy-based devices utilizing laser and radiofrequency technologies to stimulate neocollagenesis and tissue remodeling\, as well as topical pharmacological agents aimed at restoring mucosal integrity and lubrication. Moreover\, we will provide insightful perspectives on surgical interventions\, including vaginoplasty and labiaplasty\, that detail their anatomical corrective capabilities and patient selection criteria.\n\nThis week\, our main presenter is Dr. Annebelle D. Aherrera\, who is a past Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Makati Medical Center. She is a women’s wellness advocate and a practicing OB-GYN specialist for aesthetic and pediatric adolescents. Our reactor is Dr. Ricardo M.
