Anyone\, at any point in their lives may need rehabilitation following illness\, injury\, surgery or declining function with age.\n\nIn this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS\, we will discuss the case of a patient with progeria (Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome)\, which is an extremely rare\, progressive genetic disorder that causes children to age rapidly. Patients with progeria manifest with bone problems\, osteoporosis and heart problems. The average life expectancy for a child with progeria is about 15 years. Some with the condition may die younger and others may live longer\, even to about 20 years. There’s no cure for progeria\, but new treatments and research show some promise for managing symptoms and complications.\n\nThe patient in our case study was bedridden and could not sit up. The PGH Rehabilitation Medicine team established a program called SIGLA\, which helped the patient to sit up and live a better quality of life with more functions for daily living.\n\nWe will take a closer look at the field of rehabilitation medicine and how important it is for restoring functions\, improving quality of life and respecting the needs and dignity of individuals who may suffer from untreatable\, intractable or terminal conditions.\n\nOur main speaker is the senior resident-in-charge of the case\, Dr. Marie Arenbi I. Carillanes-Fiesta. Our other speakers are Dr. Monalisa L. Lim-Dungca\, who is a consultant of the pediatric rehabilitation service\, and Dr. Shellygrace A. Evangelista-Fullante\, who is the head of The Seating Clinic. Finally\, the Synthesis and Closing Remarks will be delivered by the PGH Coordinator for Training\, Dr. Marie Dione P. Sacdalan.\n\nBe a part of our online credible community and learn more about the state-of-the-art in rehabilitation medicine from the experts.\n\nTogether\, we can STOP C.O.V.I.D. DEATHS!
